DEU GSSS is a coordinating institution for master’s degree -second cycle- programmes (thesis, non-thesis and distance learning non-thesis master’s) and doctoral degree –third cycle- programmes of Dokuz Eylül University.Giving students the opportunity to specialise in a wide range of disciplines, DEU GSSS currently offers142 graduate programs (68 thesis master’s programmes, 41 non-thesis master’s programmes, 6 distance learning non-thesis master’s programmes and 27 doctoral programmes) under 36 academic departments.These programmes are in the fields of study of the Faculties “Economic and Administrative Sciences”, “Business”, “Law”, “Maritime”, “ Theology”, “Literature” at DEU and of the interdiciplinary departments at GSSS.

Quotas of Programs
Programs that will accept student for related academic year and their student quotas determined by related Academic Departments are announced on web site of the Graduate School of Social Sciences (www.sbe.deu.edu.tr).
Student quotas categorized as “Quotas for Turkish citizens and international candidates that completed their education in a country except for Turkey” and “General Quotas”.

APPLICATION TYPES
International Candidates who wish to study as a scholarship of Turkiye Scholarships
These candidates may follow all application, admission and registration procedures via official web page of Turkiye Scholarships (https://www.turkiyeburslari.gov.tr/en) and Turkiye Scholarship Offices.
Turkish citizen and international candidates that graduated from an Undergraduate/Master’s program of a Higher Education Institutions in a country except for Turkey and will apply to separate quotas of the programs for these students
These candidates may apply to the separate quotas if the program has “The Quota for Turkish citizens and international candidates that completed their education in a country except for Turkey”.
Candidates who will apply to “The Quota for Turkish citizens and international candidates that completed their education in a country except for Turkey” must submit a petition indicating the program they want to apply for, and with enclosed “required documents for final registration” to Graduate School of Social Sciences on apllication dates.
These applicants do not apply online with pre-registration application system and they don’t take the science exam.
International candidates that will apply to general quotas of the programs
The international candidates that graduated from any university in Turkey and Turkish citizen candidates may apply to General Quotas of programs. International candidates are subjected to the same conditions as Turkish citizen candidates.
The candidates who will apply to “the General Quotas” will perform their pre-registration procedures on the online pre-registiration application system.
If these candidates are accepted to enroll to the program after the evaluation period, they must deliver these documents to Graduate School on registration dates.
In the registration period, information on the documents submitted by the candidates must be same and consistent with the information they submitted on online registration application.
Online Pre-Registration Application Procedures (Only for applications to General Quotas)
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR FINAL REGISTRATION
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT APPLICATION
Candidates may apply for;
One Master’s program with thesis, or,
One Non-thesis Master’s program, or,
One Master’s program with thesis and one Non-thesis Master’s program, or,
Just one Doctoral program.
Candidates studying in the last year or semester of their Bachelor education during the application dates, can apply to Master’s programs (with thesis/ non-thesis/ non-thesis distance education). After the evaluation period if these students are found eligible for the registration to the programs, they must certify that they are graduated from their Bachelor education.
Candidates misstated while the online pre-registration application, will lose the right to enroll in the programs, even if they are granted the right to enrol at the end of evaluation period.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR FINAL REGISTRATION
1) Letter of Intent and CV
The letter of intent is the letter in which the students explain their purpose and motivation for the application, their related studies and projects.
“Candidates who will apply to “The Quota for Turkish citizens and international candidates that completed their education in a country except for Turkey” must deliver letter of intent and CV with their petition of application to the Graduate School. If available, reference letters and certificates can be added to the petition.
Candidates who will apply to the “General Quota” will enter their information to the page of “purpose and intent letter” during the online pre-registration period. For these candidates, submitting these documents to Graduation School is not required.
2) Photo
6 photos of sizes 4×6 cm
Must be taken within the last 6 months
3) A Copy of the Residence Permit (If Available) and A Copy of Passport
It is also necessary to bring the original documents to registration office for checking during final registration.
4) Diploma Equivalence Certificate or Recognition Certificate
Turkish citizens and international candidates that completed their education in a country except for Turkey must deliver the Recognition Certificate taken from Council of Higher Education.
5) Diploma or Temporary Graduation Certificate
A copy of diploma (Bachelor degree for Master’s program applications, Master’s degree for Doctoral program applications) or temporary graduation certificate and a copy of its Turkish translation approved by Foreign Delegations of the Republic of Turkey or the Republic of Turkey notaries.
6) ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Exam) or equivalent GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) or GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) score report
There is no ALES / eALES, GMAT, GRE requirement for application to non-Thesis Master’s and non-Thesis Distance Education Master’s programs.
Candidates who will apply for Thesis Master’s programs must have a score report of minimum 55 points from related ALES score (Verbal / Equal Weight) or equal GRE/GMAT score.
Candidates who will apply for Doctoral programs must submit a score report of minimum 60 points from related ALES score (Verbal / Equal Weight) or equal GRE/GMAT score.
ALES, GRE and GMAT results are valid for 5 years.
7) Foreign Language Certificate
Application for the programs in which the language of instruction is Turkish:
For all international applicants (Thesis, Non-Thesis and Non-Thesis Distance Education Master’s programs and Doctoral programs applications) minimum C1 level Turkish Language Certificate taken from one of the following institutions is required.
*Dokuz Eylul University Language Education Application and Research Center (DEDAM)
*Ankara University Turkish and Foreign Language Application and Research Center (TÖMER)
*Yunus Emre Institute (YEE)
This document is valid for 3 years.
For Thesis Master’s Programs in which the language of instruction is Turkish, any other foreign language certificate or test score except for Turkish is not required.
For Doctoral Programs in which the language of instruction is Turkish, an English Language Certificate (if the candidate’s mother tongue is English, a foreign language certificate except for Turkish) is required.
Application for the programs in which the language of instruction is English
An English Language Certificate (if the candidate’s mother tongue is English, a foreign language certificate except for Turkish) must be submitted. In addition, if the candidate registers as student after the evaluation, a Turkish Language Certificate at the level of C1 taken from the above mentioned institutions must be submitted within the period of the education period.
For Doctoral Programs, candidates must have a score report of minimum 60 points from YDS/ e-YDS/ YÖKDİL exams or equivalent exams.
For non-Thesis and Distance Education Master’s Programs, candidates must have a score report of minimum 60 points from YDS/ e-YDS/ YÖKDİL exams or equivalent exams, or a score report of minimum 65 points from “English Proficiency Exam for Master’s program applications” of Dokuz Eylul University School of Foreign Languages.
For Thesis Master’s Programs, candidates must have a score report of minimum 50 points from YDS/ e-YDS/ YÖKDİL exams or equivalent exams, or at least 55 score from “English Proficiency Exam for Master’s program applications” of Dokuz Eylul University School of Foreign Languages.
English language preparatory education for 1 year is compulsory for the students who submitted the exam score reports as below while application process:
* 50-59 points from YDS / e-YDS / YÖKDİL exams or equivalent exams,
* 55-64 points from “English Proficiency Exam for Master’s program applications” of Dokuz Eylul University School of Foreign Languages.
8) Transcript
Original of the transcript, which shows all the courses and grades taken from the university.
The candidates who are graduated from associate degree program and completed their bachelor degree in the faculty, must enter the 4-year GPA if available on transcript, if not, the GPA of the last 2 years.
THE EVALUATION PROCESS FOR “GENERAL QUOTA” APPLICATIONS
Evaluation process for PhD and Thesis Master’s Programs
The candidates are sorted by “candidate score” and are placed in program quotas starting from the student with the highest score.
The candidate score for programs that accept students only by written science exam:
The candidate score is calculated only if the written science exam score is minimum 75 points for Doctoral programs and minimum 65 points for Thesis Master’s programs. It is calculated as the sum of 25% of the written science exam score, 25% of the graduate program average, 50% of the ALES (or equivalent GMAT / GRE) score.
The candidate score for programs that accept students by written and oral science exam:
The candidate score is calculated only if the average of written and oral science exam score is minimum 75 points for Doctoral programs and minimum 65 points for Thesis Master’s programs. It is calculated as the sum of 25% of the average of written and oral science exam score, 25% of the graduate program average, 50% of the ALES (or equivalent GMAT / GRE) score.
Evaluation process for Non-Thesis and Non-Thesis Distance Education Master’s Programs
The candidate are sorted by “general success score” (which is the sum of 50% of the undergraduate program average and 50% of the evaluation note) and are placed in program quotas starting from the student with the highest score.
The general application score is calculated only for the candidates whose “evaluation score” is minimum 65 points. Evaluation score is determined by the evaluation jury by reviewing the Application Form and its annexes (letter of intent, CVs, letters of reference, certificates and other documents) and grading out of 100 points.
THE EVALUATION PROCESS FOR “THE QUOTA FOR TURKISH CITIZENS AND INTERNATIONAL CANDIDATES THAT COMPLETED THEIR EDUCATION IN A COUNTRY EXCEPT FOR TURKEY”
These applicants do not apply online with pre-registration application system and they don’t take the science exam.
The documents that the candidate submitted to the Graduate School of Social Sciences during the application period are forwarded to the head of the department and evaluated by the department.
In accordance with opinion of the appropriateness of the department and with the decision of the board of directors, the candidate registers to the program on the specified dates.
After registering as a student, Turkish Citizen students are required to submit their Diploma Equivalency Certificate to the Student Affairs Office within one year. Those who fail to submit the certificate within the specified period lose their student rights.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULTS AND FINAL REGISTRATION
The results of the evaluation are delivered to the Graduate School by the relevant departments. These lists are announced at www.sbe.de.edu.tr in the aforementioned dates.
Candidates who are granted the right to register must register as student on registration dates with the required documents by coming to the Graduate School.
There may be vacancies after the registration dates, in consequence of losing the right to register (by misstatement or by not enrolling in the programs in the registration dates). In this case, vacancies will be announced on www.sbe.deu.edu.tr and candidates who has minimum 75 points for Doctoral programs and minimum 65 points for Thesis Master’s programs will be granted the right to register to these vacancies. Candidates who are eligible to enroll in Non-Thesis/ Non-Thesis Distance Education Master’s Programs lose their right to enroll in the program if they do not register on registration dates or they misstated in the application. |
